Let’s face it, being a geek is not conducive to fitness or health. Adding in the writing deal and I end up sedentary the vast majority of every day. This has contributed to the fact that I weigh 190 pounds as of September 2008, I have a 40 inch waist (or is it waste…) and 25 inch thighs. Several different web sites seem to think that I have a BMI of roughly 32. I know my cholesterol is high (I didn’t actually MAKE it to the lab last physical).
Mark this as my (first… next…?) statement of determination. I don’t want to not be able to keep up with my kids. I don’t want to be in the hospital with a heart attack or stroke. I want to live to see my kids’ kids’ kids.
My current goal?
130 pounds
5 K run by the end of the year.
Disney half marathon in maybe 2010
Getting back into a size 10 or 12 jeans
Breathing without wheezing
How am I going to get there?
I have decided that I really like to exercise to the podcasts from fitMusic.com. I will use that to keep my pace even when I run
I will work through the couch potato to 5k program, or a modified version of it that is for distance of run rather than time since I’m running in the dark and I don’t have a stop watch that I like.
I will work out 4 lunches a week at Gold’s Gym down town
I will walk with MPOG and Squirrel on the weekends
I will swim on weekends to remove stress and relax
I will keep a food/drink journal (this will probably be the hardest to keep to… everyone says it is hard to actually live up to).
I will remember that I am human and that if I fail one day I will get back up the next day and start all over again.
I will try to mark my progress in my blog (since everything else ends up here) under fitness.
Happy first day of the rest of my life.
